Express Entry: Federal Immigration Program
Objective: To enable skilled workers to live and work permanently in Canada.
Application Requirements: Applicants must be subject to a scoring system based on criteria set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Education, language skills, work experience and other factors are evaluated.
Process: Creating online profiles, inviting high scoring candidates and applying for permanent residence. The process is usually completed within 6 months.
Fees: Application fees, permanent residence fees.
Work Permit: Temporary Foreign Worker Program
Objective: To enable foreign workers to work temporarily in Canada to contribute to the Canadian economy.
Application Requirements: A job offer and a positive result from the employer's Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
Process: Employer's LMIA application, followed by work permit application. The process is usually completed within a few weeks after receiving the LMIA.
Fees: LMIA application fee, work permit application fee.
